ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly is set to pass the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024 during its session on Monday evening. Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi will present the report from the Standing Committee on Interior regarding this bill and will subsequently move for its passage.
The amendment to the ICT Local Government Act, 2015 will involve updating Section 17(3) by replacing “People’s Representative Act, 1976” with “Elections Act, 2017.” This change is necessary for issuing the notification regarding reserved seats for the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI).
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has scheduled the ICT local government elections for October 9 this year. Additionally, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology will present the committee’s report on the Establishment of Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal Bill, 2024, which proposes amendments to the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996 and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. The chairman of the Standing Committee on Defence will also submit the report on the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Bill, 2024. Furthermore, the chairman of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice will lay out the report on the July 24, 2024 Supreme Court verdict in the Mubarak Sani case. Reports on the Privatization Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Apostille Bill, 2024 will also be presented in the House.
