  • The individual accused in the Karsaz road accident in Karachi has been placed under judicial remand.

KARACHI: On Wednesday, a Karachi East court approved the judicial remand of Natasha, the woman accused of causing a fatal accident on Karsaz Road that resulted in the deaths of two people.

The court’s decision came a day after a directive was issued for Natasha and her medical report to appear in court. The judicial magistrate granted her remand following a request for a seven-day physical remand from the investigation officer (IO), who noted that Section 322 is a non-bailable offense.

The incident occurred on Monday when Natasha allegedly crashed her car into multiple vehicles, causing injuries to five others. The court had previously granted a one-day physical remand to Natasha, who resides in Karachi’s KDA Scheme-I.

The deceased have been identified as Aamna Arif, 26, and her father, Imran Arif, 60. Following the accident, Natasha was detained by the police and Rangers, who impounded her jeep. She was also taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a medical examination due to a head injury.

A case was filed by Imtiaz Arif, the brother of the deceased, accusing Natasha of “negligence, freewheeling, and speeding,” leading to the tragic deaths. Police stated that charges of culpable homicide, negligence, and rash driving would be included in the FIR since Natasha had a valid driving license.

Dr. Chooni Lal, head of the Psychiatry Department at JPMC, reported that Natasha was not in a good condition when admitted. He noted that her family did not provide any medical records to support claims of mental illness and stated that she does not require psychological assistance. Dr Lal also clarified that Natasha did not attempt self-harm while hospitalized. She has since been discharged from JPMC.

Previously, the IO had reported to the court that Natasha was unable to appear due to her condition, as assessed by Dr. Lal.

CCTV footage obtained by Geo News shows the father-daughter duo riding a bike when a speeding white luxury vehicle, identified as Natasha’s, strikes them. The video captures Natasha fleeing the scene without stopping.

Police have accelerated their investigation with the aid of the surveillance footage.
