The government has lifted a ban on the entry of tourists into Murree and Galiyat after 10 days of the Murree snow disaster that claimed 23 lives.

The Punjab government has banned tourists from entering Murree outside the area by setting up a roadblock following the Murree disaster. Eight days later, district authorities issued a conditional permit for visitors to enter Murree after January 17th.

Up to 8000 vehicles will be able to enter the station and entry will be blocked from 5 pm to 5 am, however, locals and military vehicles including Azad Kashmir will be released from the ban.

According to traffic police, only 900 vehicles entered Murree on the first day. A tourist entry and exit record are also compiled from the main Murree checkpoint. Hotels have also reduced rental costs due to fewer tourists.

Earlier this month, at least 23 people were killed in a massive crash caused by tens of thousands of tourists who had flocked to a mountain town to see the unusually strong snow.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a warning about the expected snowfall, rainfall in Murree and other provinces.

PDMA Punjab has issued a warning about rain and snow in Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, and Lahore from Tuesday to Thursday morning.

The PDMA has advised all deputy commissioners and emergency services in the province to take precautionary measures to avoid any loss of human and material resources.
